When planning to buy Dutch Shepherds, consider the source you are going to buy the dogs from. A responsible breeder is the one who cares about each dog that he brings into this world. A good breeder will tell you about their dogs' ancestors, their strong points and flaws, their lines for several generations, the predispositions of the breed and more. Reputable breeders are second or third generation breeders. Their distinctive features are the following: that they raise their puppies at home; that they have shown and competed with their dogs; and that they are knowledgeable on all the aspects concerning their breed and its upkeep.
A responsible breeder is likely to make you prove that you are qualified to keep a Dutch Shepherd. He will ask you many questions, including: why you want this breed; what kind of experience of dog ownership you possess; if you have a fenced yard and more.
A true breeder will require you to sign a contract demanding that you return the pup to them if for any reason you are unable to keep it in the future. Registration papers, pedigree and medical certificates should be in order to assure you that the puppy is healthy and does not experience any genetically inherited diseases and conditions. Talk to knowledgeable professionals about the training and development of Dutch Shepherds before you make your final decision.
